Interview with Portuguese Film Director Miguel Gomes

This interview was initially conducted in October 2012 as part of Montreal’s Festival du Nouveau Cinema. Miguel Gomes was presenting his film, Tabu, which had already received international acclaim as it was making festival rounds across the world. I took the opportunity to not only discuss Gomes’ new film but to explore the current state of the Portuguese film industry and how it personally affected him and his colleagues. In response to the closure of the Portuguese Film Institute in May 2012, Miguel Gomes, along with other Portuguese filmmakers, presented a New Cinema Law to the parliament. Optimistic that the law would mean help the industry, it has been delayed many times over and has yet to be in-stated.

I am also including a video review I did for the film.
